The Small Business Web Center was created to provide advice and resources for small business owners trying to take their business online, or for people who just want to make some extra money on the Internet. Why the focus on small business? Because, small businesses make up the majority of businesses in America, and they are the ones that are the most disadvantaged. I will be sharing news, information and opinions on a wide range of topics related to online business, including SEO, online marketing and small business tips.

So what does SB stand for?

The SB in my blog name has multiple meanings and sums up who I am nicely.

2. South Bay (where I grew up)
3. Steve B (the initials of my name)

Who am I?

My name is Steve and I have been doing business on the Internet since 2000. I have worked in all types of industries and have developed/managed all kinds of websites. In addition to developing online businesses, I also have extensive experience in online marketing and SEO. I consider myself as a Jack of Many Online Trades.

When I got started online, I didn’t have a mentor to help me. Everything I know was self-taught. I learned the hard way – trying everything and making mistakes along the way. What initially started out as a hobby, eventually became a full-time career for me.

How I make money

I won’t sit here and tell you that I’m not some millionaire living on a beach front property. But, I can say that I’ve had my share of successes. I’m just an average Joe like you striving to earn a bigger paycheck and be happy while doing it. Compared to 5-7 years ago, it has become a lot more difficult to make money online. Why? Because today, there’s more competition than ever before, and SEO requires more time and effort. Some self-proclaimed experts may tell you otherwise because they’re already in the money and they wouldn’t have anything to sell you if they told you it was hard work.

I’m a realist, and the reality is – making money online is hard work. Sure, there are isolated cases where individuals were able to capitalize on a loophole or some rare niche they came across. But for the most of us, it’ll take hard work, know-how, common sense and dedication.

Today, I make money online with various methods. This includes running my own websites, promoting affiliate programs, doing some freelance work, and a little bit of domaining.

I have three main goals with this blog:

• To help small business owners understand the fundamentals of online marketing and SEO, and to grow their business.
• To speak to you in layman’s terms without the fluff.
• To share my experience, tips and opinions.
